About the 50-States-In-50-Days, "Tour of Truth"
Through the unique "Tour of Truth" crusade, Alex McFarland and a 9 member ministry team conducted over 60 services, throughout all 50 states, in only 50 days.
This was done from May 20 - July 8, 2000, and involved nearly 18 months of preparation beforehand. Maybe you saw it on the news, read about it in the paper, heard about the "Tour of Truth" on radio, or through some other means.
But the answer is, "Yes. Alex is ... that guy who preached in 50 states in 50 days.".
“YOU’RE GOING TO DO WHAT?...” Those were the words that Alex McFarland often heard when he first began to share his vision for a 50 state, 50 day crusade across America. Some people reacted with disbelief, others with outright ridicule. But with credibility and finances both at stake, McFarland had to focus on the calling of God, rather than the doubts of man. Finally, a dedicated core of leaders from around the country began to emerge, sharing the desire that America be impacted with the message of Jesus.
At that point, Alex's organization was called "Faith In Focus Apologetics Ministries." The Faith In Focus team ultimately did take their evangelistic campaign to every US state, in only 50 days. Alex and 9 others covered the entire nation, calling people of every background to pray for America, and to consider Jesus. Each night’s service was broadcast live over the internet- another first in itself – and by going to every state in just 50 days, the team illustrated the urgency that America turn to Christ!
A combination multi-media presentation and old-fashioned Christian revival, the “Tour of Truth” program was designed to present the timeless message of the Gospel in unique and persuasive fashion. But these noble aspirations were met with obstacles from the beginning.
Simply preparing for 50 consecutive “mini-crusades,” presented many unforeseen practical and personal challenges. But by May of 2000 final preparations were in place, and the team was off to share their message in every US state. The the nearly 20,000 mile “Tour of Truth” would prove to be more of an adventure than any of them could have imagined, and the grueling schedule would stretch their sense of commitment to the limit.
Alex wrote a book which chronicles the inspiring story of the "Tour of Truth." The ministry team discovered what can happen when God’s call is followed in child-like faith, and the blessings that result when doubts are overcome by dedication.
